Pattern · Legal
Privacy Policy
Last updated · 23 June 2026
The short version: Pattern is built to be calm about your data, too. Your patterns and notes live on your device, not our servers. The only thing we collect right now is the email you give us for the waitlist. Any analytics are anonymous and strictly opt-in. We never sell your data.
1. Who we are
Pattern is a calm productivity app, currently in development for iOS, and is operated by Level83 (“Level83”, “we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal data in connection with our website at pattern.app (the “Site”), the Pattern waitlist, and the Pattern app once it is released (together, the “Services”).
For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact us at hello@level83.io. For the purposes of the EU/UK GDPR, Level83 is the data controller for the personal data described here.
2. What we collect, and why
Waitlist sign-ups
When you join the waitlist, we collect:
- Your email address, and the date you signed up.
We use this only to let you know when Pattern launches, to offer early access, and to send occasional, relevant updates about the app. We rely on your consent as the legal basis, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us. We do not add you to unrelated marketing lists.
Website usage
- Basic technical logs. Like most websites, our hosting and content-delivery providers automatically process limited technical data — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — to operate the Site, keep it secure, and prevent abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable site.
- Your theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, we remember your choice in your browser’s local storage. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
The Site uses no advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers, and no third-party marketing pixels.
The Pattern app (once released)
- Your content stays on your device. The patterns, sessions, one-offs, trackers, and Shelf notes you create are stored locally on your iPhone. If you enable iCloud, they sync privately through your own Apple iCloud account — we never receive or store that content on our servers.
- Optional, anonymous analytics & crash reports. To fix bugs and understand which features help people most, you can choose to share anonymous, aggregated diagnostic and usage data (for example: that a feature was opened, or that the app crashed and where). This is off by default, is requested with a clear opt-in, never includes the content of your notes or any data that identifies you, and can be turned off at any time in Settings. Where used, the legal basis is your consent.
- No account required. Pattern does not ask you to create an account, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
3. How we use personal data
We use the limited data above to:
- operate, maintain, and secure the Services;
- notify you about Pattern’s launch and early access (waitlist);
- diagnose crashes and improve features, where you have opted in to analytics;
- respond to your messages and requests;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
4. How we share data
We do not sell your personal data, and we never share the content you create in the app. We share limited personal data only with:
- Service providers who act on our instructions — for example, an email/waitlist provider, our website hosting and CDN, and, if you opt in, an analytics or crash-reporting provider. These providers may only process data to provide their service to us.
- Legal and safety recipients, where we are required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Pattern, our users, or the public.
- A successor, if Level83 is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will require the recipient to honour this Policy, and notify you of any material change.
5. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own, including outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision — to protect your data.
6. How long we keep data
- Waitlist email: until Pattern launches and for a reasonable period afterwards, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it — whichever comes first.
- Technical logs: kept only for a short period for security and operational purposes.
- Opt-in analytics: retained in aggregated/anonymised form only.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data; to restrict or object to certain processing; and to withdraw consent at any time. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — note that we do not sell or share your data in that sense.
To exercise any right, email hello@level83.io. You can unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time using the link in any email we send. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, and we minimise what we collect in the first place. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, but keeping your content on your own device — rather than our servers — is a deliberate part of how we protect it.
9. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Pattern develops and before it launches. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know — for example, by email to waitlist members.
